DIANA ABURTO

Diana Aburto Vega was born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua where she started her dance career in a wide variety of Afro Latin diaspora dances, contemporary dance and Afro Cuban modern techniques. She is also a professional Nicaraguan Folklore Dancer trained under Folkloric Ballet Macehuatl (“Worthy” in Nahuatl, the language of the first people in Nicaragua). Diana has served as a Nicaraguan cultural ambassador for the Bay Area through building and directing cultural education for the community. She has been awarded in 3 different SF Carnaval Grand parades bringing her culture visibility and social justice awareness behind her country’s  history.  Her curiosity in ancestral dances and her connection with the African Diaspora brought her to train with the Folkloric Ballet “Raíces Profundas” in Havana, Cuba in 2022 and is today the rehearsal director and dancer of  “Arenas Dance” under Susana Arenas Pedroso.  

In addition, she is a Dance performer behind the Dance film & production of  “Ghostly Labor”  from La Mezcla by Vanessa Sanchez.
